Junior Practice 2010
Junior practice nights have commenced and will be held from 6.30pm to 8.00pm each Wednesday night.
Please note that no practice will be held on the following three Wednesday’s, as the ground is being used:

U17s v Enfield - 10th May
A dark and damp day threatened to disrupt our second match, however with excellent communications between Manager & Groundsman the match was on.
Darwen had a full complement & it is pleasing to report that most from the correct age group. It was decided to reduce to 16 overs due to poor light
conditions.
With the skipper losing the toss (again) Enfield elected to bat first to make the most of what light there was.
'Smiler' opened from the pavilion end with good pace and a very useful opening batting pair set about their task. Despite good bowling from Liam &
Matt
the openers seemed to relish the prospect of piling on the runs, finding the boundary at regular intervals.
It took the first change to get a result with Zac teasing the impressive Fazal into chipping one into the safe hands of Fay.
The other opener Cook unbeknown to us realised that they had limited batting to come and started to hit out to amass a decent total. When “Woody” Painter
was rudely hit for a very big six towards the end of his otherwise excellent spell, he had a face like thunder and I am sure I heard a few muttered
expletives…
This guy needed removing and the young Zac G duly obliged with the aid of another good catch from 'safe hands Fay'.
He should have been rewarded for some good bowling when the batsman skied one leg side, a confident shout from George Oxley of KEEEEEPERS!!!..........
Oh sh*** as he dropped the dolly. Taxi for Oxley….
The Opposition posted 75 for 5 off their 16 overs.
Opening the batting were QEGS pairing Alex Davies & George 'Gloves' Oxley
The two openers Khan & Fazal (also in Enfield 1st XI) generated good pace, George being cleaned out for zero, enter 'Ducky' floppy mop Allsop,
who did not see the first few balls, not because of pace but because his hair was in his eyes, he flicked a few using the pace of the ball and seemed to be
settling in well, until Alex edged one to the keeper. Heads dropped, but unnecessarily as Zac W playing a Skippers innings treated the bowling with
disdain, really upsetting the paceman when he walked down the track to him. Allsop backed him up well until giving his wicket away after he had seen off
the quicks, spooning one to Mid Off off the 12 year old bowler…. Who incidentally snaffled the wicket of Matt Fay cheaply & put in a very strong claim for
the scalp of Callum 'boom boom' Burke who stood his ground despite the fielding team claming he had 'middled it' to the keeper. Good job it was failing
light and the umpire is deaf…
Any how these two brought it home again with the skipper posting a healthy 38 n.o.
Final score 76-4 off 15.5 overs
Next game we face a strong Haslingden team, away in 2 weeks, need the same XI if possible

U17s v Rishton at Birch Hall 26th April
DJ Dave's first managerial stint, he was under pressure from the off trying to raise a team but thanks to enthusiasm of the younger lads and despite him
telling one of them the wrong day, we fielded Ten young warriors.
Agreeing reduced over's to 18 Darwen fielded first opening with 'Smiler' Holden, who despite pulling a 'tummy muscle' on Saturday did not hold back and
set a blistering pace with two opening maidens and some unplayable deliveries, Matt Fay was also in good rhythm.
Fielding was excellent all round, not piercing the ring at all, taking the visitors to the fifth over before they troubled scorer Bill. Sensing they needed
runs 'Smiler' was driven to the boundary, not happy with this he decided to reply by removing the offending batsman's stumps with a beauty.
Skipper Zac Whalley and 'Woody' Painter bowled very accurately, Zac trapping the other opener LBW
Enter Zac Goldthorpe and 'Ducky' Allsop to the fray good spells from both frustrating the visitors who could only post 56-5 off their allotted 18
In Reply the opening partnership Oxley & Allsop almost saw off the front line bowling attack both falling at the end of the opening spells but
exposing their second line of attack. Matt unfortunately was out LBW early doors, enter Zac Attack who is enjoying a fine run (posting 59 for the 3rds
Last Saturday), he was soon into the action, Smiler unfortunately played all around a straight one so 'Woody' to the crease to back up the Skipper who
played some lovely shots finishing on 33 NO including 2 sixes & bringing it home with overs to spare.
Overall a very pleasing effort especially in the fielding department well done.

U15s First Match v Rishton
The under 15s commenced the season with an ECB cup match against Rishton.
Darwen dominated the game following early wickets from S Vallimulla and H Campbell with two each.
Rishton never recovered and scored 39. Darwen won by 10 wickets with J Khan (23) and D Ainslie (10), steering the side home with a few extras.
In the next round Bacup were supposed to be the opponents, but have conceded the game as the cannot field a team.
