In Memory of Albert Pawson

Albert Pawson was a well known milkman in Darwen and when he passed away in winter his family asked for donations to many charities but also included Darwen cricket club juniors. One of Alberts grandsons Kallum is a member of the u15s team and we were asked if we could supply shirts for the u15s team with the money and the surplus to be put towards winter training sessions. On Wednesday before the Bacup game we held a small presentation ceramony on Sandy Lane where Gary Jackson presented the team with their shirts. The shirts are embroidered with the Darwen logo and have "In memory of Albert Pawson" on. On behalf of Darwen Cricket Club and the juniors I would like to thank Mrs Pawson and her family for their kind donation towards the club. Kallum is pictured in the centre on the front row.

Junior Practice 2008

Due to vast number attending last years practice nights we have had to make some changes which will effect the under 9s training sessions.

The u9s practice will now take place on Sunday mornings 10am-11.30am starting on the 11th May and finishing on the 17th August. Simon Painter is the u9s Team Manager and will be taking these sessions.

The under 11s and u13s members will still train on Wednesday evenings 6.30pm-8pm starting on the 7th May and finishing on the 20th August. Neil Swarbrick will be managing the under 11s team and Graham Ainslie will be managing the u13s squads.

Under 15s squad members are invited to practice on Thursday evenings 6.30pm onwards with the senior team members. Chris Davies will be manger of the u15s.

We would please ask that all under 9s are accompanied to practice and not left on the ground without a parent or guardian.

Could we also ask for prompt collection of u11s and u13s on Wednesday evenings as the gates are locked after practice and we cannot take responsibility for leaving children outside the ground waiting for collection.

As in previous years if the weather is bad or the ground is wet and unfit then the gates will remain locked and practice will be cancelled for safety reasons.

Due to the increase of annual subscriptions we will no longer be collecting £1.00 at practice sessions, however all players selected to play any games will be asked for £1.00 team subsriptions at the games by the team managers.

Summary of the Season

Another season has come to the end and once again the juniors have done the club proud.

The under 13s A team were unbeaten and finished top of their division winning all but one which they tied. Well done to the Manager Chris Davies and all the lads who played over the season. For many of this team it was their last season at pairs cricket.

The under 15s also topped the table but it was a 3 way tie for the league with East Lancs and Nelson. We were persistant in playing all our rained off games and ended up with 3 games in the last week playing in the dark. All three teams lost only 3 games over the season. Again well done to manager Chris Davies, captain Kameran Anwar and all the boys who played over the season.

The under 11s finished 3rd in the league but won the cup in our league. We got to the Lancashire Vimto U11s cup semi final also but were narrowly beaten. Well done to manager Graham Ainslie and all the boys who played many of them moving up to u13s next year. Also thanks to Chris Davies who helped out while Graham was away.

According to the results sheets the u17s tied the league with Enfield!! Gary Jackson says look in the book as some results have not been sent in from other clubs, they were warned that they would not get the points, this is what has happened and so Gary says we have won the league!! Thanks to Gary and all the players who took part.

The under 9s and u13s B teams did okay and both finished mid table. Thanks to Simon Painter and Neil Swarbrick who did the under 9s and also to Graham Ainslie for the u13s B.

Darwen managed to get most if not all of their fixtures played, which was a great effort considering the weather early doors.

Thanks to everyone who helped out at practice, especially Keith and Atif.

Thanks to Chris Davies for the update and for only thanking himself 3 times!!!!.
